CFSI’s Psychosocial Care Project in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines conducted special trainings for 241 caregivers from 12 municipalities hard hit by last November’s devastating Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).

The Community-Based Psychosocial Care and Support Training, held from April 22 to May 11, helped to strengthen participants’ knowledge, attitudes and skills in the provision of psychosocial care and support for typhoon survivors within their communities.

Participants at the trainings – held in schools, barangay halls, chapels and cottages near the beach – included barangay health workers, local leaders, parents and youth leaders.

The topics discussed included disasters, stress and crisis management, psychological first aid, therapeutic communication, support systems and referrals. Interactive sessions featured role-playing, skills demonstrations, team-building exercises and group dynamics.
