Almost a thousand families were displaced due to the recent armed clashes between two parties of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces – Moro Islamic Liberation Front (BIAF-MILF) in parts of Datu Montawal and Pagalungan municipalities in the province of Maguindanao. According to the assessment report prepared by CFSI, 195 families sought refuge in Dataya Mamukan Residence Evacuation Center in Brgy. Layog, Pagalungan while 728 families are staying in Matalam Farm Settlement Elementary School in Brgy. Dungguan, Datu Montawal.
On 19 October 2019, CFSI, in partnership with UNHCR, distributed Core Relief Items (CRI) to the 923 IDP families in the two evacuation centers . The CRI consists of plastic tarpaulins and sleeping sets to aid in the protection and security of IDPs in the centers.
This initiative was conducted under the Mindanao Protection Project (MPP) being implemented by CFSI with the support of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). Being carried out from January 2019 through December 2019, the MPP seeks to address the protection needs of IDPs and affected populations in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte by undertaking Protection Monitoring and Reporting, Municipal Protection Profiling, Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), and distributing CRI especially to Persons with Special Needs (PWSN).
