Education for all – this is what CFSI and Educo Philippines aspire for Sama Bajaus in the undertaking of the Sama Bajau Education Support Project (SBESP).

To help improve literacy and increase employability among out-of-school children and youth among the Bajaus,  the SBESP has begun developing the Contextualized Sinama ALS Modules. In a writeshop activity with CFSI, Educo, DepEd ALS Department, DepEd Learning and Resource Management Office (LRMO) of Zamboanga City, IP Leaders, and Instructional Managers (IM) under SBESP, the ALS modules are being reviewed, modified, and translated into specially-designed resources that are more appropriate for the learners. Sinama is the local language which the Bajaus speak.

The writeshop activities, which started on 14 February 2020 and expected to end by 14 March 2020, are conducted at the Human Resource and Development Center of DepEd Division of Zamboanga. A total of 22 representatives from SBESP partner agencies are participating. Once completed, the contextualized modules will be used by the IMs during their ALS sessions with Sama Bajaus to facilitate better learning among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged IP households.

In diverse communities where many Sinama adolescent children and young adults are inhibited from pursuing quality education, the SBESP pursues to provide more and better learning opportunities for Sama Bajaus.

The SBESP is being implemented by CFSI with funding support from the EDUCO Philippines and in partnership with DepEd Zamboanga.
