For the 16th consecutive month, CFSI participated in the Kawiyagan Festival last 30 January 2020 held at the People’s Park in Marawi City.
In the event, CFSI handed over 14 livelihood packages to project participants of the Marawi Recovery Project (MRP), specifically: 3 barbers’ set, 3 carpentry set, 2 carinderia set, 1 coconut grater with grocery items, and 5 sidecars.
Some recipients also displayed their existing products including vegetables, native coffee beans, and turmeric and ginger tea powder – all grown in Marawi.
Kawiyagan (Meranaw word for ‘livelihood’) is organized by Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) and the Marawi City local government where government agencies and organizations hold a ceremonial turnover of livelihood support and grants to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Marawi City.
The event, held every month, also aims to “converge” the list of beneficiaries among government agencies, local government units, and humanitarian groups to avoid duplication of distribution of grants among beneficiaries.
It is participated by member agencies and partner development organizations of TFBM’S Sub-committee on Business and Livelihood, including the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Philippines, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 12, Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) BARMM Marawi City, World Food Programme (WFP), and UN-HABITAT.
CFSI, being a member of the Mindanao Humanitarian Team (MHT), is also a member of the said committee. It has participated in every Kawiyagan since its inception on August 2018.
The Marawi Recovery Project, implemented by CFSI, is supported by the Australian Government. The project promotes the protection, psychosocial, and economic recovery of around 6,500 households (approximately 32,500 individuals) affected by the Marawi siege.
