Baguio City, Luzon, Philippines — On 30 August 2017, the University of the Cordilleras conferred on CFSI Executive Director Steven Muncy the degree Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa in recognition of his 37 years of humanitarian action and advocacy, most of those with, and through, CFSI. During the delivery of his Commencement Address, Mr. Muncy thanked the University and noted the powerful, moving ceremony was an affirmation of the collective efforts of the many people who have, and are, serving with CFSI in various capacities and in different locations. Advocating for protection and assistance for refugees and displaced persons, both locally and globally, he encouraged everyone present to “make your heart a home for others.” The Commencement Ceremony, involving roughly 2,000 persons included a traditional “canao” dance performed by representatives of the indigenous peoples of the mountain highlands.
