A person of any age, race, gender, or status has the liberty to enjoy one’s rights. Most especially children and young people who are vulnerable to a lot of risks – made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this age of health crisis, Community and Family Services International (CFSI) continues to cultivate life skills among Sama Bajau children and young people in Zamboanga City to help them be more resilient and vigilant.
Among the efforts made are a series of training in communities for the said sector. Sessions include Basic Child’s Rights and Responsibilities, which discussed child protection laws and mechanisms to avail those in their barangay. There were also parent-teen talks with topics on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Early Pregnancy and Romantic Relationships.
During the training, health protocols were followed including sanitation procedures and compliance to the allowed number of participants for gatherings.
This initiative is under CFSI’s Sama Bajau Education Support Project (SBESP), which is implemented with funding support from EDUCO Philippines. The project aims to provide greater opportunities for 400 Sama Bajau adolescent children and young adults, through access to education and increased employment opportunities. The Department of Education’s Alternative Learning System is employed in the project as well as the Technical Vocational Skills Training of TESDA. #
