Members of CFSI’s Child Rights Project in the Visayas distributed hundreds of toys sent from the US to children in typhoon-hit Guiuan.
A total of 310 toys, collected by the Girl Scouts of Green Oakes in Liberty, Illinois, were shipped to the Philippines and distributed to children attending CFSI Child-Friendly Spaces in Barangays Six, Seven, Barbo, Cogon, Pagnamitan, Sapao, Sulangan and Victory Island on March 3. An additional 38 educational toys were donated to local day care centers.
CFSI has had a continuous presence in the Visayas since Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) struck the region on November 8, 2013, directly affecting more than 14 million people, leaving thousands dead and more than 4 million homeless. CFSI has specialized teams providing humanitarian relief for devastated communities in Tacloban (serving the city itself and surrounding communities), Ormoc in Leyte (serving the southern Leyte region) and Guiuan in Eastern Samar (serving the Eastern Samar region).
