CFSI’s Psychosocial Care Project in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines helped to build the capacity of educational institutions in disasters with a one-day workshop on Psychosocial Support and School-Based Disaster Preparedness held at Leyte Progressive High School in Tacloban City on June 4.
The workshop, involving 28 teachers, teachers’ aides and non-teaching staff, used both collaborative and experiential approaches, including discussions, demonstrations and group activities. It was aimed increasing understanding of the impact of emergencies on children, highlighting the importance and practical application of psychosocial support for children, building knowledge on the key concepts of disaster risk reduction management, and enhancing disaster-preparedness skills.
