Staff from CFSI’s Psychosocial Care Project in Tacloban helped to strengthen and empower families at a “Training on Parent Education on Adolescent Health and Development” seminar held in Dulag in Leyte Province, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines, on April 28, 2014.
The seminar, organised by the Commission on Population 8 IMCU (Adolescent Health and Youth Development Program), was aimed at raising awareness of family support and strengthening family ties through a range of targeted activities focused on psychosocial issues, managing emotions, coping in stressful environments, and such psychological interventions as supportive communication and active listening.
CFSI’s team conducted an interactive session, during which parents and adolescents from 11 families were grouped together, that encouraged open communication and the expressing of emotions. By adopting this approach, the participants gained knowledge of psychosocial care and support, and learned new ways to strengthen familial bonds.
