Ninety-eight children beneficiaries of the Sama Bajau Education Support Project (SBESP) are undergoing technical-vocational skills training from the Technical Education and Skills Development Agency (TESDA) in Zamboanga City.

Prior to the enrolment, TESDA provided orientation on the available skills training to help the beneficiaries choose the appropriate track for them. Most of them identified Bread and Pastry Production, Driving, and Food Processing. They received supplies and materials needed for the training and are given regular meals and transportation allowance.

Parson Mohammad, an 18-year-old single parent from Brgy. Kasanyangan, is one of the current Sama Bajau trainees.

“Aniya na anak ku dakayu rinda rinda ampa tullu tahun ummul na. Bilahi aku, bang aku sidda atauh na ma paghinang sin kaginisan pagkakan agpatinna aku pag usaha iya makatabang maaku maka ma anak ku makabuwan ma kami kasanyangan,” shared Parson.

“I’m a single parent with a three-year-old daughter. I really wanted to learn about food processing and preservation so I can start my own business to provide a bright future to my daughter.”

The skills training started in November this year and is expected to end by mid-December. After which, the beneficiaries will be assisted in seeking employment opportunities.

This intervention is part of the SBESP implemented by the Community and Family Services International (CFSI) with funding support from the EDUCO Philippines. The project aims to provide greater opportunities for Sama Bajau adolescent children and young adults, through access to education and increased employment opportunities. #
